My 5 year older than me brother had me watch the Shining when I was 7. Unlike you,to this day I really don't like Horror. In the late 80s my friends, we get together to watch nightmare on elm announce street or Friday the 13th and I would go but your great trepidition in my heart as I knew I really didn't like the movies and was scared more than everyone in the room.
When I was maybe four years old, my babysitter insisted on watching The Fly, the original one with Vincent Price and the tiny man fly squealing "help me!" The trauma has lasted a lifetime 🎃
Creepshow 1 & 2 are two of my fav horror films! I love love love when dark humor coincides with the horror. The Raft was extraordinarily creepy to me. I think it is part of the reason I refuse to go into rivers/lakes. Also the squashing of hope at the end really deepened the devastation factor.
The scariest monsters for me are "people" who look/seem ordinary but are monsters underneath like the the thing from "The Outsider" or the ancient monsters from "Doctor Sleep". 😧
Love your mention of "The Outsider" and "Dr. Sleep." I agree that these monsters are incredibly creepy. The demon from "It Follows" freaked me out because of this. The idea that it appears as a human but something is just off.
Are you from Indiana? I met Sammy Terry at a Keystone middle-school orchestra recital circa 1982. He was friends with my shop teacher, an old salty WWII veteran who introduced me to him. I felt like I had met a movie star and could hardly find my voice to respond.
This is a unique take to write about for Macabre Monday! I've actually never seen any horror movies with a blob monster — I think I need to change that.
Very fun! I've seen the first Creepshow many times- a friend had it on laserdisc! It's a real classic.
I just did a little reading on the sequel. It seems that only 3 of the original 5 story ideas ended up in the movie due to budgeting, but one of them ended up in Tales from the Darkside (remember that one?).
I do. I will have to look up which story came from Creepshow. I love "Lover's Vow" from Tales. Such a interesting twist of a short film.
I never had a laser disc player. But, a cousin from the next state over had one. I remember watching the Aliens Directors cut and having this huge conversation about how knowing the turret guns were there makes the movie much more interesting. Those cut down so many of the horde of xenomorphs.
I saw a few of the more recent Twilight Zone show episodes, and maybe even a couple of the new Creepshow. I remember it being hit or miss, but a few of the episodes were good. Black Mirror more or less has the torch these days.

That is awesome. I am from Illinois, right on the Indiana border near Vincennes, IN. I would have been the same way. Such an Icon!
Hi, Dr. Weiss! Scariest monster? Any monster that sounds or looks like a clown? *shudder*
I really enjoyed reading this post! Looking forward to the next Macabre Monday! 🕸️👻

Watch out. They can really scare and scar you. 🤓
Looking forward to it!

I agree. I really like Love, Death, and Robots as well. There are some horrifying and beautiful episodes of that show.
